Spring Dance Concert to Feature Work by Student Choreographers
Numerous styles of dance and choreography will be highlighted when the Providence College Dance Company presents its Spring Dance Concert on the weekend of April 27-28.
Sponsored by the Department of Theatre, Dance, and Film, the concert will be offered at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, and at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, in the Angell Blackfriars Theatre of the Smith Center for the Arts.
The concert is directed by Dr. Wendy R. Oliver, professor of dance and department chair. The company has 23 members ranging from first-year students to seniors, with majors including biology, accountancy, marketing, health policy and management, economics, education, and others.
The concert will consist of a variety of dances choreographed by 13 students and incorporating ballet, modern, contemporary, tap, and jazz styles.
Some of the musical accompaniment will be popular recorded music by Explosions in the Sky, The Rolling Stones, and Coldplay. Other music will include excerpts from the classical ballet Don Quixote by Léon Minkus; composer John Lunn with the Chamber Orchestra of London; and the Piano Guys with a mix of contemporary and classical music.
Seating for this production is general admission, and all tickets are $5.00.
