O’Hurley to Lead Live Auction at A Night in Black & White
More than 700 alumni, parents, corporate partners, and friends of Providence College are expected to attend the fourth annual A Night in Black & White, PC’s signature fundraiser.
The event, organized by the offices of Institutional Advancement and College Events, will be held at the Boston Marriott Copley Place on Saturday, April 27, from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
The College’s biggest, single-event fund-raiser, A Night in Black & White benefits the PC Fund, the annual fund the College uses to address its most immediate, mission-driven needs. The evening’s program also will highlight PC’s Angel Fund, which provides students who encounter unexpected financial hardships with the resources needed to continue their studies.
A Night in Black & White, which raised more than $1 million in its first three years, is a festive evening that celebrates the mission and spirit of Providence College. The occasion features gourmet food and wine pairings, silent and live auctions, and the presentation of the Black and White Awards. More than 160 corporate and individual sponsors have signed on to support the event.
This year, PC trustee Kevin C. Phelan ’66 will be honored for his service to the College and to his hometown, Boston. For the first time, the College also will recognize a corporate partner, Barnes & Noble College Booksellers.
Frank ’83 and Colleen ’83 Duffy and Ted ’86 and Kim ’86 McNamara serve as co-chairs of the event, leading a committee of 40 volunteers.
This year’s live auction will feature a celebrity touch. The auctioneer will be actor and entrepreneur John O’Hurley ’76 & ’06Hon., a member of PC’s Board of Trustees who played J. Peterman on Seinfeld and hosted Family Feud. He also competed on Dancing with the Stars.
Live auction items include the original Louie’s bar sign, a one-week stay in Costa Rica in a five-bedroom home at the five-star Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort, and private luxury box accommodations at a Boston Red Sox game at Fenway Park with College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. ’80. In addition, O’Hurley will reveal details about a mystery auction item that night.
The silent auction will include student photography juried by professional photographer Lisa Brown ’86, as well as VIP tickets to a taping of NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in New York City, a spa weekend at Foxwoods MGM Grand, and a 2013 Commencement VIP Package including seats in the president’s section and reserved parking at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.
