Elderly Outreach is a service club that enables students to provide friendship and entertainment to residents of local nursing homes. As a club, we plan fun events for the residents, including a Senior Prom and various holiday parties. Weekly visits consist of engaging activities, such as baking mini apple pies, playing Wii bowling, creating sculptures out of Play-Doh, and decorating cookies. It is a fun and relaxed atmosphere, allowing students to easily connect with residents.
There are several ways to volunteer and be a part of the club. The easiest way is to attend the weekly visits. Every Friday afternoon, we visit Capitol Ridge Assisted Living Home from 3-4 PM. Located on Smith Street, Capitol Ridge is a short 5-minute walk from campus. We meet in the Chapel Basement Library at 2:45 PM and walk over together. If you cannot make it on Fridays, Capitol Ridge is always looking for volunteers other days of the week. Feel free to work directly with Vanessa, the Activities Director, to set up a time to volunteer. Finally, John Fischer, a PC student, is able to drive students to the Jeanne Jugan Center, a nursing home in Pawtucket. The visits will be from 12 PM - 3 PM on the following Saturdays: March 1st, March 22nd, March 29th, April 5th, April 12th, April 26th. Please let Johnknow directly if you would like to attend!
