New Speaker in RI House of Representatives

Dr. Joseph Cammarano, associate professor of Political Science and Chair of the Public and Community Service Department at Providence College.

The Providence Journal reports Nicholas A. Mattiello, a lawyer, and former House majority leader, has been elected House speaker. Mattiello's election comes just days after a state and federal police raid precipitated the abrupt resignation of his predecessor, Gordon D. Fox.

A state lawmaker since 2007, Democrat Mattiello, will face a myriad of issues, most notably Rhode Island's  unemployment rate, one of the highest in the United States. How will he govern?

Dr. Joseph Cammarano is an associate professor of political science and chair of the public and community service department at Providence College. He is available to provide expert analysis on RI's new House Speaker.

To speak with him directly, please contact Chrissy Centazzo at (401)-340-5710, or ccentazz@providence.edu.
