Ratzenberger: Road to Success Paved by Responsibility, Hard Work
Providence, R.I.-- Harkening back to his early years as a laborer, John Ratzenberger '11Hon. told more than 1,100 members of the Providence College Class of 2011 that hard work and a sturdy moral compass can carry them to success in whatever they do.
The former Cheers star and a voice in the most groundbreaking animated films in movie history, Ratzenberger delivered the principal address during the College's Ninety-Third Commencement Exercises on Sunday, May 15.
Best known for his Emmy-nominated role as Cliff Clavin in the landmark sitcom Cheers, Ratzenberger has enjoyed an acting career that has spanned more than 30 years. In addition to his roles in a number of iconic films and television series, Ratzenberger has provided a voice part in all of Pixar's feature films, including all three Toy Story movies. Class of 2011 Exhorted to Lead Exemplary Lives
Providence, R.I.--Members of the Providence College Class of 2011 were encouraged to lead lives full of hard work, meaning, and truth during the College's Ninety-Third Commencement Exercises on May 15 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
In all, the College awarded 1,135 degrees--906 baccalaureate, 184 graduate, 38 from the School of Continuing Education, and seven honorary--including bestowing the first honorary bachelor's degrees in school history on two World War II veterans. Continue Reading →

BetGeorge ’11 Awarded Fulbright Scholarship to Teach in Bulgaria
Providence, R.I.-- Alexandra E. BetGeorge '11 (Syracuse, N.Y.), a Global Studies major and political science minor at Providence College, has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) to teach English and undertake an independent study in Bulgaria.
The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government. It is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.
Each year, approximately 1,500 students receive a Fulbright U.S. student grant to go overseas. The last Fulbright grant awarded to a member of the PC community was to Kristina H. Reardon '08 in 2010. Continue Reading →

PC to Honor WW II Student-Soldiers at Commencement
Providence, R.I.-- Long-ago members of the Providence College student body who ultimately sacrificed education for service in World War II will receive a rightful honor at the College's Ninety-Third Commencement Exercises on Sunday, May 15, 2011.
The College will award honorary bachelor's degrees to members of Unit #1188 of the U.S. Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP), who were enrolled as undergraduate students at the College in 1943, but who were called to service and never returned to complete their education. Continue Reading →

Television Icon John Ratzenberger Named 2011 Commencement Speaker
Providence, R.I.-- John Ratzenberger, the former Cheers star and a leading voice in the most successful animated films in movie history, will present the Commencement Address at Providence College's Ninety-Third Commencement Exercises on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence.
Ratzenberger, whose movie roles--when measured by box office totals--make him the sixth-most successful actor of all time, is one of five distinguished individuals who have been chosen to receive honorary degrees from the College.
The others--all PC alumni--are William J. Christie '61, David A. Duffy '61, John J. Partridge, Esq. '61, and Dr. Stephen B. Fawcett '69. Christie, Duffy, and Partridge are celebrating their 50th class reunions this year. Continue Reading →
