Important Security Information for Commencement Exercises at the Dunkin Donuts Center

Spirits are high as the Providence College community makes its final preparations for a series of weekend events celebrating the Class of 2016.

Here are a few logistical and security-related considerations to keep in mind as you make your plans for the various events and activities. More details are available on the Parents' Guide website.

While security is always paramount, recent events have necessitated that Providence College (and all colleges and universities) review all policies and procedures with a specific focus on ensuring the safety of soon-to-be-graduates and guests at commencement-related events.

Here are a few general guidelines to keep in mind:

  • Large bags of all kinds can be problematical, so we ask both graduates and guests alike to consider leaving bags at home or in your car (unless it is absolutely necessary for you to carry them with you). Under some circumstances, security personnel will deem it necessary to search a bag before allowing its owner admittance to an event. This is true of events at both the Dunkin' Donuts Center and Peterson Recreation Center on campus.
  • The Dunkin' Donuts Center has a no-smoking policy, and smoking is limited to outdoor spaces on the Providence College campus.
  • Visitors are not allowed to bring food or beverages into the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
  • PC security personnel will direct visitors to parking areas for on-campus events. The Dunkin' Donuts Center website has information about various parking facilities close to their downtown location.
  • Commencement is a joyous occasion; as such, entire PC community is committed to providing a positive environment for our graduating seniors, their families, and their friends. Providence College Security, Dunkin' Donuts Center Security, and Providence Police Department personnel will be vigilant, efficacious, and helpful, and we ask that all our guests appreciate the serious nature of their work and cooperate fully. In addition to the guidelines specific to commencement and its tangential activities, those professionals will be alert to other potential issues including the possession of weapons, illegal drugs (including alcohol in the possession of minors), noisemakers, laser pointers, etc., and they will deal with those  matters accordingly. In the final analysis, we all share the same goal — enjoying a safe, fun, and memorable weekend in celebration of Providence College and the Class of 2016.
