Guest Speaker Series

Dr. Alexander C. Irvine

In November of 2012, as part of our Guest Speaker Series, the Writing Center sponsored a visit from Dr. Alexander Irvine, award-winning fiction writer and former professor of literature and creative writing at the University of Maine. Dr. Irvine discussed his different processes for writing in various genres, the development of mixed-genre mediums, and the importance of striving to be a diverse writer. Dr. Irvine also read from some of his most recent work.

Dr. Neal Lerner

In May of 2012, the Writing Center hosted Dr. Neal Lerner of Northeastern University in collaboration with the Northeast Writing Center Association and the Rhode Island Writing Center Roundtable. Faculty and writing center administrators from institutions across the state gathered at Providence College to hear Dr. Lerner discuss strategies for promoting and supporting writing across the curriculum.

Brian MacPherson

In March of 2012, as part of our Guest Speaker Series, the Writing Center sponsored a visit from Brian MacPherson, Red Sox beat writer for the Providence Journal.  Among other topics, MacPherson discussed the importance of concision, adapting to changing technological mediums as a professional writer, and the challenges of writing with deadlines and working with high profile athletes as evidenced through his experience covering the Boston Red Sox and Super Bowl XLVI. Read more about  Brian MacPherson's visit in PC NEWS.
